This
page contains all the latest information regarding my SR20 turbo
conversion. The Primera EGT engine that had been sourced and was going to be used in the conversion, does not connect to the transfer box from the GTI-R. There are a few minor design differences between the EGT & GTI-R engines, preventing the components from physically connecting together. The differences were minor, but enough for it to be a problem. So, the alternative!? We've gone ahead with the engine from the Pulsar GTI-R. A few people wondered why we hadn't gone down this route to begin with, and the main reason for that was reliability. Doing too much too soon, would make it harder to fault find in the event a component somewhere in the setup, went wrong. The other reason was cost. The Primera engines are alot cheaper to purchase, compared to good, standard GTI-R engines going in the region of £850 plus. The GTI-R engine that was in the donor Pulsar does have a few problems, but I've decided to go ahead and get it rebuilt, using fast road / race spec components and forged internals. Not that cheap, but the components are readily available and easy to obtain. Below are a few pictures of the car taken recently. As you can see, the engine bay from the Pulsar has been cut out and welded into the Micra! This ensures that engine mounts, fuel pipes, brake pipes, suspension mounts and other bits all align correctly & reduces the risk of problems. The majority of the car is now Pulsar, but what the average Joe public will see, is just a modified Nissan Micra from the outside. The front mount intercooler is there for sizing purposes only, and probably won't be the one fitted to the car when it's finished! Other news is that the old alloys have now been sold. It's a shame to let them go, but the wheels need to be larger & with a higher offset, to tuck them back into the arches. A replacement style have already been chosen, and will be purchased in a few months time. There's still plenty of work to go, so I'm unable to give you any deadlines yet, but fingers crossed it'll be at some of the major shows later this year. I'll hopefully have more news for you all soon!
